For many children, summer break means family trips, camps and other outdoor activities.  While there are a lot of activities for kids to take part in during the summer, I invite parents and children to open a book and venture into the world of imagination.

My Summer Reading Club challenges 1st through 5th graders to read eight books of their choice during the summer break.  In addition to the eight selections, a book of the month will be chosen for each grade level during the summer months.

To participate, children must read the required number of books and complete the Summer Reading Club form, which they can pickup at my office or any participating library.  A parent, guardian or family member must sign the bottom of the form to attest to their child’s reading and return it to my office by September 1.

To celebrate the participant’s accomplishment, club members are invited to participate in an ice cream social.  Party attendees will be entered into a drawing for special prizes.

Reading sparks the imagination and encourages creativity.  I encourage every child to join the book club and explore the interesting and adventurous world of literature.
